Around the entire world Folklore is facing new challenges. This challenge is on the one hand from the rapid expansion of globalized technological cities and civilization, and on the other hand is that the field of Folklore is becoming more and more refined and subtle. Recently a book entitled "Folklore: New Challenges" was published by the Bangla Academy, Dhaka as in the contemporary world there are many metrics by which Folklore is studied - it is from this book's perspective that the article is based. Most of the authors of the book are from various countries, but they have spent much time researching many aspects of Bengali and Bangladeshi culture; they compare different types of Bengali folklore that are of interest to them. Alongside their work on Bangladesh and many other countries around the world is atreatment of the many different kinds of Bangladesh's oral traditions and the many different contexts and customs that Folklore studies. In the book are several articles that analze the relationshin that Follore has with museumee and archives, as well as some that explain gender issues, legends, popular sayings, magic, folksongs, death practices, customs and many other cultural topics. Addressed in this article is the link between the aforementioned book and the history of the Bangla Academy and the field of Folklore Studies in Bangladesh, and it is hoped that these works and research at the Bangla Academy on the subject will attract others to the field.
